Reports to President & CEO

Summary: Responsible for providing leadership, strategy development, execution, and overall administration of operations related to fundraising. The Vice President of Development manages the development staff and oversees all development-related programs, including, but not limited to, individual giving, corporate and foundation support, church donor relations, gift-in-kind, digital fundraising, and fundraising events. He/she also actively manages a portfolio of valued philanthropic partners and high-capacity prospects, and represents the organization at key donor meetings and events.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Development:

Develop and implement annual fundraising strategy that aligns with the Mission goals, and raise funds for annual fund, capital campaigns and special projects in accordance with the Mission vision and priorities.

Oversee development initiatives related to grants, major donors, corporate, civic and church giving, direct mail, radio, digital media, workplace giving campaigns, planned giving and other sectors to meet Mission fundraising goals.

Manage fundraising agency relationship to ensure they meet their revenue and expense goals for the Mission.

Responsible for overall quality control of solicitations.
At the discretion of the CEO, serve as a key public relations spokesperson, media contact, community advocate and representative.

Ensure all donors are shown appreciation and receive appropriate strategic communication aligned with the Mission donor stewardship priorities.

Identify and develop new initiatives for promoting awareness, building relationships, and increased giving to Central Union Mission.

Actively manage relationships with an assigned portfolio of existing major donors and prospects, strengthening relationships with current and potential donors and elevating them to increasingly higher levels of giving and engagement.

Build, motivate and manage the development department in a fiscally sound manner by ensuring that the appropriate systems, staffing and procedures are in place to support fundraising goals.

Leadership:

Oversee Mission-wide projects that combine communications, development, partnerships, community engagement and ministry, as assigned by the President & CEO.

Special projects as assigned by the President & CEO.

Select, train, and provide development opportunities, performance appraisal and counseling for department staff. Manage department staff and ensure performance of individuals is meeting goals.

Maintain open communication with the senior leadership team regarding donor and fundraising
activities.

Participate on the senior management team for the organization.

Help ensure the Mission reputation and integrity remains strong and positive.

Periods of managing the Mission marketing, communications and social media activities may be required.


Requirements:
Bachelor Degree from a nationally accredited university/college. Masters degree preferred.

At least 8-10 years of successful fundraising experience, including engaging and/or managing the relationship and work with a fundraising agency. Acute understanding of the interplay and expectations of a fundraising agency required.

Practical experience and skills with the elements articulated in this job description.

Solid understanding of best practices and trends in nonprofit fundraising required.

A demonstrated passion for ministry and issues surrounding homelessness and poverty.

Strong management and interpersonal skills with ability to sustain good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Exceptional attention to detail.

Hands-on experience with donor CRM software required (preferably multiple platforms) as well as excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, Power Point.

Daily presence in the office with outstanding management skills required. Some evening and weekend presence required for special events, media opportunities, etc.

Visionary leader who can successfully articulate and implement goals and action plan of the President & CEO.

Ability to sit or stand for sustained periods of time, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and other basic physical abilities required.

An active member in a local Christian church. Agreement with Mission Statement of Faith is required.
