Outreach Specialist - Mental Health

As an Outreach Specialist - Mental Health, you will support the Outreach Ministries and efforts to end homelessness by providing street outreach efforts that address mental health through a comprehensive knowledge of diagnosis, de-escalation, treatment, and spirituality. RESPONSIBILITIES *Administer all outreach services to those we serve in King County, specifically focusing on addressing Mental Health needs and leading them to life transformation in Christ. *Provide Mental Health services to ensure the highest quality of care by providing tools and support for a safer and honoring environment. *Work closely with the Outreach Administrator to establish and implement goals for Outreach Ministries. *Gain a strong understanding and working knowledge to build relationships and partnerships with local agencies, services, and medical providers in King County, to establish resources to address the mental health crisis, specifically through the Outreach Ministries. *Inform those we serve of the services available to help them in their present situation. Ensure they access mental health resources and other options, including MM Recovery Program information. *Work with the Outreach team to develop plans to fix any operational issues encountered within the department. In addition, initiate communication with the Director of Outreach on any operational or personnel issues that may negatively impact operations. *Serve as an active mental health resource training for volunteers participating in Street Outreach ministries to ensure the highest quality experience for all involved. *Seattle's Union Gospel Mission accepts and encourages the involvement of volunteers at all levels of the organization. Therefore, all Mission staff are encouraged to assist in creating meaningful and productive roles in which volunteers might serve in the organization and interact positively and cooperatively with our volunteers. *Ensure all staff, volunteers, and interns interact with those we serve in a grace-based and relationally driven manner. *Maintain accurate and timely records, and ensure the physical security and maintenance of assigned equipment. *Provide regular input and recommendations to management. *Prepare monthly statistical and narrative reports, as required. *Maintain a positive, pleasant, professional Christian attitude. Work with other staff to forge and model transparent and supportive Christian relationships, which will serve as a Leadership example for recovery program men. *Attend all Mission meetings and training sessions, as required. *Work effectively with colleagues throughout the Mission's organization to achieve ministry objectives, maintaining good communication and working relationships *Maintain accurate and timely records of guest interviews and interventions using the professional case note standards of Men's Ministries Recovery Program Case Managers. *Drive between various ministry locations as needed. *Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE *Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and be able to meet the standards of the Mission driver criteria required, including but not limited to: **Clean driving record **No current suspensions or revocations **At least 21 years of age *Prior experience in street outreach related to Mental Health and rescue mission context is highly preferred *Working knowledge of DSM diagnostic tools is preferred *An associate's degree is preferred SCHEDULE Monday -through Friday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays are required. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; bend, stoop or reach. Occasionally stand, balance, twist, stoop, kneel and reach with hands/arms. Regularly lifts up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. PRE-EMPLOYMENT This position is subject to a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
