Health and Wellness Coach (MS)

As a Health and Wellness Coach, you support the Men's Shelter Ministry and efforts to provide holistic transformative care to residents of the Emergency Services programs by providing Christ-centered fitness, nutrition, in-house activities, and a supportive (grace-based, trauma-informed) community to those in greatest need.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PARTICIPANT TRAINING:

*Develop and implement weekly fitness activities for Men's Shelter program residents to include:
*Weekly walking/running activities
*Monthly hikes/climbs or bouldering activity
*Weekly Men's program recreation league activity (basketball, softball, and flag football)
*Monthly/Quarterly/Annual fitness events (5k, 10k, Half-Marathon, etc.)
*Facilitate arts, craft/photography, and other stress-relieving groups at the Men's Shelter.
*Work closely with Outreach, Men's Emergency Shelter, and Men's Recovery Program Directors to ensure all fitness scheduling, transportation, and events work seamlessly with all Mission Program schedules and programming.
*Work with Recovery Program staff to ensure an alcohol/substance-free environment for fitness, recovery, and discipleship, including conducting *Urinalysis (U/A) testing and locker checks with program participants if needed. Due to the sensitive nature of these job duties, we can only consider males for this position.
*Work with Fitness Coach to coordinate combined Program events and activities.

HEALTH EDUCATION:

*Provide nutrition classes to program residents
*Research other fitness and nutrition program models nationwide to ensure best practices.
*Provide regular input and recommendations to management.
*Prepare monthly statistical and narrative reports, as required.

DONOR/VOLUNTEER COORDINATION:

*Provide support to the Mission's peer-to-peer Walk/Run/Ride activities to successfully engage partners and volunteers for events and training.
*Work with the Development team to coordinate annual event schedules to ensure weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly events are well-publicized internally to Mission residents participating in fitness programming.
*Work with Mission Volunteer Engagement Departments to solicit and track all volunteer hours and opportunities.
*Help identify and record stories of Team Mission participants, recovery program residents, Mission staff, and community members.
*Ensure all fitness events, volunteers, and interns interact with those we serve in a grace-based and relationally-driven manner.
*Produce and distribute schedules, maintain accurate and timely records, and ensure the physical security and maintenance of assigned equipment.
*Maintain a positive, pleasant, professional Christian attitude. Work with other staff to forge and model transparent and supportive Christian relationships, which will serve as a Leadership example for recovery program residents.
*Work effectively with colleagues throughout the Mission's organization to achieve ministry objectives, maintaining good communication and working relationships.
*Assist with research and requests to prospective sponsors for Team Mission.
*Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


*Two years of experience working in social services or a rescue mission context is required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred
*CDP/SUDP(T) credentials are preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; bend, stoop or reach. Occasionally stand, balance, twist, stoop, kneel and reach with hands/arms. Regularly lifts up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, you will lead running, hiking, and recreation events and training, including running 10+ miles and carrying a 40 lb. pack on a 2,000-foot elevation hike in approximately 2 hours.
