Description

VENTURA COUNTY RESCUE MISSION

The Ventura County Rescue Mission serves the poor and homeless, offering hope to thousands of hurting people. It is the longest standing year-round shelter for homeless men in Ventura County.

In 1972, the mission began providing food, shelter, and clothing to the needy as the Oxnard Rescue Mission. In 1989, its name changed to the Ventura County Rescue Mission to better align with the expansion of services countywide. In 1998, the mission completed a new 125 bed facility to house its emergency shelter and residential substance abuse recovery program.

LIGHTHOUSE FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN

The Lighthouse for Women and Children, serving homeless single women and women with children, established its Life Recovery program in 1998, offering a transitional living program that included a program for recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. In December of 2003, the Lighthouse established a year-round emergency shelter that also serves as an overflow shelter when the two domestic violence shelters in the County are full.

Today, with an overall capacity of 112 beds, the Lighthouse offers a full range of care specifically tailored to the needs of homeless women and children by offering shelter, intervention, substance abuse recovery, case management, education, life skills development, vocational training, employment, and transitional housing.
