In Their Words

CN: What is something happening at your mission that you are most grateful for?

Helping Up Mission : Partnerships that fuel our growth and impact—one example at Helping Up Mission our collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Center for Addiction and Pregnancy (CAP) which began in March 2023. In the past year, we have served 44 pregnant and parenting moms through the CAP partnership, inviting them into our Women’s Spiritual Recovery Program. HUM currently has 15 babies currently residing in our Center for Women and Children along with these moms. We believe that through this effort, HUM and Johns Hopkins CAP are going upstream to make a generational impact. This program offers chance at hope, recovery and keeping their families together rather than more children going into the foster care system as their moms remain trapped in addiction.

CN: What is something you are looking forward to and/or praying for?

Helping Up Mission : A prayer focus in the near term is our acquisition of a two-acre tract in between our Men’s and Women’s recovery campuses. Thanks to funding from a generous donor and favor through over a year long process with City approvals, we are hoping to close and begin demolition on the site in late Spring. This site at 1100 E. Baltimore has enormous strategic value for future growth and development but in the near-term will be developed into a clean and green community park for HUM client and staff use.

CN: In what ways has being a Citygate Network member been a resource to you and your team?

Helping Up Mission : The conferences, retreats and online connections offered by Citygate Network create a platform for community and relationship building. My involvement in the network over the past nearly 10 years has built a camaraderie of colleagues from whom I have learned so much. HUM has benefited from the shared learning experiences and diversity of ministry expressions that address homelessness, addiction, and trauma across the Citygate Network.

The 300+ organizations in Citygate Network membership seek to move people in desperate situations and destitute conditions (i.e., hungry, homeless, abused, and addicted) from human suffering to human flourishing through the process of gospel-powered life transformation.
