Got Food? Need Food? There’s an App for That!

Maria Suarez Stenson will launch the EETZ food rescue app in April to address food surplus in communities all over the country. Born out of her 12-year-old daughter’s desire to distribute baked goods, this new food logistics platform relies on mobile phone notifications to connect those who have food they need to get rid of with those who need food. After downloading the app, participants post the item, quantity, and location of the food available, or claim any nearby surplus, from an extra pizza to leftovers from an event. The first person to claim it on the app in the area, can pick it up. They can donate it to a shelter, church pantry, or family in need. Available food might come from Costco, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Starbucks, or even local food pantries. That’s all there is to it. With a desire to keep good food from going to waste, EETZ is free to use, and can reach food insecure populations, and food providers like rescue missions and church ministry programs. To post a food rescue or claim food, click here and join the EETZ community at no cost to you.
