Check Out a New Movie Trailer

Maya is a narrative feature made as a social impact film through the non-profit film company, Artists For Change. The movie raises awareness on key social issues including divorce, uninvolved parents, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and online predators. When a teenager seeking to escape her alcoholic mother's abusive boyfriend is lured into a trafficking scheme, she comes to realize the difference between love and manipulation.

According to research from UNICEF, “...domestic violence at home may become a 'push factor' that causes someone to become vulnerable to trafficking.” The traumas that young people experience exploit their vulnerability, making it critical for them to understand the clever ways traffickers approach and gain the trust of their young victims. The film shows not only Maya's struggles, but her mother’s, as she battles alcoholism and an abusive relationship, following her journey back to faith, self-esteem, and identity.

Watch the trailer for this film, scheduled for release in late January 2024.
