man in prisonNavigating from a Prison Cell to the C-Suite

Nike executive Larry Miller recently revealed that he spent many years in prison on a murder conviction as a young man. Upon release, Miller hid his prison record for decades in order to build a successful career and has now reached executive levels at Nike’s Jordan brand and with the Portland Trail Blazers NBA team. In a Harvard Business Review interview, Miller talks about the role education played in helping him leave behind his life of crime, as well as the personal price he paid to keep such a monumental secret, and why he believes employers should give those who have been formerly incarcerated a second chance. This story could give great encouragement to some of the people in your programs.
