Taking Mental Health Seriously

Singer and actress Selena Gomez visited the White House to participate in a conversation on mental health with the president and first lady, the U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and 30 young leaders from across the U.S. As follow-up to the information provided during the State of the Union address earlier this year, the administration released a new fact sheet with additional actions to advance the president’s mental health strategy across its three objectives: strengthening system capacity, connecting more Americans to care, and creating a continuum of support.

The Citygate Network Annual Conference and Exposition in San Antonio featured mental health in several sessions, including a general session and a standing-room-only seminar featuring Dr. Matthew Stanford. Dr. Stanford serves as a prominent researcher on the role of faith communities in mental health care, and you can order his latest book, Madness and Grace: A Practical Guide for Pastoral Care and Serious Mental Illness on Amazon.
