Wichita Falls Faith Mission
What do you do, who do you serve, and what makes your ministry unique?
We provide emergency shelter services to the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma region. We serve our guests at Faith Mission for Men and Faith Refuge for Women and Children with daily chapel services, 3 meals per day, showers, shelter, clothing and case management. We also have a 13-month, residential addiction recovery/job readiness program for men and women called "New Beginnings." Graduates have access to Transitional Supportive Housing for up to one year after graduation.
What's something happening at your ministry right now that you're celebrating?
We are adding 16 new rooms at Faith Refuge for Moms with Children. We are also renovating the dorm, restrooms/showers, chapel and front security at Faith Mission. We raised over $5 Million for these projects and hope to be finished by early 2027. God has been moving in our Chapel services and men and women are giving their lives to Christ. Our CEO, Steve Sparks is leading a city/county-wide advisory committee to focus on reducing homelessness in our region. The city and county governments are behind this effort and our Community Health Care Center and Health Department are coordinating with WFFM, our local COC and other agencies and organizations to find solutions and funding.
What's something you're hopeful about or praying for in this next season?
We are praying that the work of the City/County Advisory Committee will be fruitful and stay mindful of the original mission - to reduce homelessness. We are praying for a "street medicine" program to improve our mobile case management relationship building efforts and a Respite Unit in our community for those who are discharged from the hospital to the streets or shelters. We are also praying for the property owners around our Men's Shelter to sell so we can add to our Transitional Supportive Housing program.
In what ways has Citygate Network encouraged, equipped, or strengthened your ministry?
We have been encouraged through relationships with others in the Network. Our team has been able to attend the National and District Conferences and be inspired and educated because of Citygate Network. The website has provided much assistance with resources and the monthly newsletter and Instigate magazine are chock-full of valuable information. We have benefitted on several occasions from the best practices advise and white papers.
