Organization Description

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is now Philly House As the nation's second oldest rescue mission, this is an exciting time for us as we now have new name and logo that better reflects the broad spectrum of all the various ways we collectively serve the homeless, hungry and hurting in Philadelphia. Our new name—Philly House—reflects two foundational elements of who we are:

  • For more than 140 years, we’ve been proud to be Philadelphia’s largest and longest-running shelter, solely focused on serving this city we love.
  • We are a welcoming, safe, well-run refuge from the streets for the homeless, hungry and hurting—a place that treats everyone like family, especially those without a home.
Our original name reflected a very specific aspect of what we did when we started in 1878: we served breakfast to homeless men on Sunday mornings. In the past 140 years supporters and partners have helped us expanded and today we open our doors 365 days a year to provide three meals a day, clean beds, medical care, counseling, help with legal needs and spiritual care. While we have a new name and look, our vision and mission remain the same: to open our doors every day with a compassionate, welcoming spirit to walk alongside the homeless, hungry and hurting of Philadelphia so that they know they are not alone, their lives matter and to activate their God-given potential for life transformation. Along with our new look, our website—phillyhouse.org—has been streamlined to allow for simpler, more practical navigation for a greater connection to stories of impact and a clear path to be involved. We hope this will be a more useful tool to serve you better. Join us as we open our doors 365 days a year to activate others' God-given potential. www.phillyhouse.org
