Organization Description

The Bay Area Rescue Mission (BARM) exists to “Love Without Limits™” individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Bay Area. With a three-facility campus in the Iron Triangle of Richmond, California, BARM cares for the whole person. For the body: food, emergency shelter, transitional housing, clothing, and medical services; for the hands: vocational training; for the mind: 12-step programming, GED preparation and certification, financial literacy education, life skills classes, parenting classes, and more; and for the heart: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in a trauma-informed framework, pastoral care, and most importantly compassion. BARM receives direct referrals from agencies, such as Children and Family Services, and partners with 35+ human service providers, including the Child Abuse Prevention Council. Through our Hunger Relief Services, Life Transformation Program, Emergency SheltersMuriel E. Mayes Center for Women and Children and Children’s Program, BARM provided 2.1 million meals, 91,117 nights of shelter, and over 100,000 hours of classes and counseling in 2025. BARM’s one-year wraparound program, the Life Transformation Program, has a 75% success rate of graduates remaining sober, stably housed, and employed or enrolled in school/training one year after program completion. Setting it apart as a highly trustworthy and impactful organization, BARM has also been awarded with a 100% Four-Star Charity rating by Charity Navigator and Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency.
