David’s future looks much brighter than it did not that long ago. “I plan to stay close to the mission and to see what the Lord has for me as far as serving Him.” So far that has meant giving back as an intern and continuing his education. His days (and nights) may be busy, but David knows he’s where he is supposed to be. “I’m just beyond thankful. There are no words for me to say how grateful I am. But the Lord knows. He knows where I’m going. And I’m going to give Him my all.” A Second Chance Leon, City Gospel Mission, Cincinnati, Ohio F ive years ago, Leon was diagnosed with chronic heart failure and spent time in the City Gospel Mission homeless shelter in Cincinnati. “It was challenging being homeless and being sick at the same time and trying to keep a job,” the 49-year-old said. Then he went to JobsPlus, the employment network of City Gospel Mission, and his life took  WWW.CITYGATENETWORK.ORG MAY/JUNE 2019 25 Leon David has learned much in his time in the Recovery Program. “The knowledge that I’ve gained here, the Bible studies here, it’s amazing,” says David. “I never missed one study and I took every class that was offered and I put effort into it.” David lives now by the Word and says he’s doing his best to sin less and to love more every day. “I understand now that it doesn’t stop with believing.”
