b'Paul is the executive director of River of Life Mission in Honolulu, Hawaii. Paul was born in Papua New Guinea as the son of Wycliffe missionary parents, preparing him for the jungles of life. Paul spent much of his career pastoring in the church, but a lifechanging experience with a man named Willy, who was living on the streets of San Francisco, thrust Paul into a life of serving people struggling in the isolation of the streets. Paul is leading a charge in Hawaii and beyond that the solution to homelessness is family, and that requires making every effort to reconnect people to blood family. one touch point each month with every homeless person on the island of Oahu (huge!). The only way this is possible is through prayer, a mission with a vision, a highly intricate schedule and plan, and a bunch of churches and people rising up to care for an intimate group of people who most others avoid by walking on the other side of the street. I have had one major goal in the last few years of ministry: to never get comfortable with my worldview and to always be willing to stretch my understanding of needs in our increasingly complex world. I think every location has its own distinct needs and challenges. I want to constantly learn how each mission around the world meets the needs in their community and what strategies they employ to have the greatest impact. However, I never want us to stray too far from the simplicity of the model that Jesus lived outcommunity and conversation. We live in a world that offers so many new tools to do ministry better and on a broader scale to reach the masses, but tapping into those resources without compromising the basics is an immense task. I hope your view of Hawaii and Photos courtesy of River of Life Missionparadise is expanded just a little bit to the point of your thinking, What could be my part? And if paradise draws you over the water to the most isolated place on earth, we would be blessed to share some kuleana with people in needand with you, too. \x03 46 WWW.CITYGATENETWORK.ORG SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2022'
