A homeless veteran has sadly become an indelible feature of our American culture. Maybe someone like Lieutenant Dan from the movie Forrest Gump comes to mind when you think of a homeless veteran—someone gruff, angry, and bound to a wheelchair. Or you may think of the image of a dejected man holding a cardboard sign saying, “I am a veteran.” The image of a homeless veteran is a vivid reminder of something gone terribly wrong. And veteran homelessness rallies a greater sense of injustice, more than homelessness among the general population.
