b'Roe created an environment in which many pregnant women were told to take care of it instead of receiving support to carry to term. As Frederica Mathewes-Green famously put it, No woman wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a trap wants to gnaw off its own leg.If we can meet this woman in the midst of her circumstances and offer support, the child can become a welcomed gift, a part of her and her family. This will open the door and introduce her to freedom. Her needs P regnancy-help organizations are at the forefront of serving women struggling with their pregnancy. These organiza-tions include pregnancy centers (both medical and resource, including mobile units), maternity homes, abortion recovery centers, and adoption agencies. These services are often the first line of recourse for women in difficult pregnancies, but their directors would be the first to say that the needs of the women they serve often require support from other providers, profes-sionals, and ministries. Thus, providing strong support for pregnant women requires a strong referral network. To facilitate strong referrals, Her Pregnancy and Life Assistance Network (Her PLAN) pub-lishes an online directory of organizations on www.herplan.org that can offer life-affirming care to pregnant and parenting women and fami-lies. We are working to populate the directory for the states that have enacted, or are most likely to enact, legal protections for unborn children. You can keep up with these laws through Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (see the resources sidebar on page 21). \x02NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2022 WWW.CITYGATENETWORK.ORG 17'
