Under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Director of Emergency Services the Emergency Services Associate for Shelter Operations will proactively nurture, maintain and monitor the safe and healing environment of our Community as a place where the grace, truth and love of Jesus Christ flow freely, and the hearts and lives of people are transformed.

As a ministry of the Shepherd's House, we provide a safe and healing environment for those in need of safe, overnight shelter and other basic services, in order to protect the physical body and heal the spirit of trauma and indignity from longer term afflictions. We are a community-supported ministry that seeks to engage Bend, Sisters, Redmond and Jefferson County communities, churches, organizations and volunteers.

Areas of Responsibility

1. Basic care of guests: provide a safe, warm and restful shelter

2. Care and sustaining of shelter facilities: SHM has more than one shelter location. The Emergency Services Associate shall work with DOES toward the following goals:
a. the operation and organization of each facility to provide effective and caring services to guests;
b. where SHM does not own the location, the safety, security and maintenance of the facility to the satisfaction of the host church or other building owner; and
c. a healthy and spiritually fulfilling atmosphere among guests, staff, volunteers, and other community participants.

3. Community/volunteer engagement: Build spiritual, emotional and financial support among community citizens, churches, public and private agencies and businesses; engage and effectively utilize volunteers; grow volunteer base

4. Case management: Deepen interaction with guests to include possibilities of healing environment or life transformation; level of interaction will vary based on individual circumstances

5. Staffing: Participate in planning for and hiring of needed staff; provide guidance, training and supervision as practically needed to meet the goals of shelter operations

6. Equipment and supplies: Take the lead, with proper consultation and assistance in identifying and obtaining the physical necessities, tools and supplies for the shelters

7. Development and promotion: Appearances within the community to promote and develop support; relations with existing support (churches, volunteers, agencies, etc) to deepen connection

8. For shelters operated by non-SHM staff: Mentor, liaise and train

9. Participate in Staff Meetings and Peer Support as guided by leadership

10. Participate with the Men’s Center as a Discipleship Partner as guided by leadership

11. Maintain service data and statistics necessary for grant reporting and other functions that support our service

12. Engage in neighbor relations to promote a positive standing of the shelter within its community

13. Attend to other supervisory and leadership responsibilities as may be necessary
