Director of Development
The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local evangelical churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve.
The Director of Development will provide innovative and strategic leadership for planning, organizing, and directing all of RMA's fundraising including the major gifts program, mid-tier gifts program, direct mail program, digital marketing and fundraising, grant program, planned giving, data analytics, donor acquisition, websites, advertising/marketing, special events and capital campaigns. The Director of Development serves as a member of the Executive Team and reports to the President/CEO. This is a full time exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience and includes benefits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the President/CEO, lead the Development department to accomplish the overall objectives of RMA's fundraising and marketing activities. Perform duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Manage, mentor and coach the Development department staff.
Plan and direct fundraising program strategies, including direct mail, digital, phone, radio, and matching gift campaigns.
Develop and grow all donor segments including acquisition, lapsed reactivation, cultivation, and middle and major donor solicitation.
Work collaboratively with Ministry directors and their donor care and community relations staff on all aspects of fundraising and donor communication.
Ensure RMA ministry staff are equipped to meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to grow and cultivate life-long relationships.
Partner with Ministry Directors to conduct capital campaigns.
Oversee and grow the grant program including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
Direct the planned giving program to grow planned gift commitments.
Work closely with President/CEO and CFO to development a comprehensive, multi channel fundraising plan. Develop strategic plans, budgets and revenue projections.
Represent RMA in public appearances/speaking engagements to strengthen and build effective partnerships with the organizations, groups and communities.
Oversee Raiser's Edge fundraising database and RMA websites.
Ensure gift receipt and recognition programs comply with all IRS and ECFA guidelines.
Oversee marketing policies and procedures including Brand Standards and Style.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Participate in other activities, programs, and teams to support the purposes of RMA.
Comply with and promote the RMA safety program.
Perform other related duties and projects assigned by the President/CEO.
A Bible based Christian faith compatible with RMA's Statement of Faith manifesting the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) and an active member of an Evangelical church.
Agrees with the RMA statement of faith.
Committed Christian in good standing in a local church.
Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry.
Sincere desire to be a "Servant Leader" in everyday situations.
Must embrace the mission, vision and values of RMA.
Minimum five years working in donor development and management, with a proven track record of professional fundraising success.
Bachelor's degree with a major course of study in organizational leadership, development, public relations, communication, or a related field is preferred.
Proven ability to work with and motivate staff, board members, donors and volunteers.
Knowledge and experience in fund raising initiatives and campaigns.
Must have proven leadership abilities: motivation, communication, judgment, achieving and measuring results, and reporting.
Highly organized, capable of balancing and prioritizing concurrent projects and deadlines.
Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Strong communicator with excellent writing abilities.
Must be detail oriented, committed to accuracy, a team player, and be flexible and able to work independently.
Must have a strong sense of confidentiality and donor privacy.
Strong general computer skills are necessary along with a competent, working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint and the Internet.
Knowledge of Blackbaud fundraising software (Raiser's Edge) preferred.
This position requires extended times of work in an office environment in meetings and working at a desk and computer and includes travel to various ministry locations, meetings and events.
Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers.
This position will function to a large degree in an office environment. As a part of normal duties, this position will also be in facilities with an at-risk population where errant behavior and disease risk may be present, as well as commercial settings where medium duty equipment may be in use, such as forklifts and bailers. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
