Outreach Coordinator
Organization The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Central Coast Rescue Mission (CCRM) is a vital part of RMA that offers emergency shelter and homeless outreach to families.
Summary The Outreach Coordinator works with the Director to plan Survival Outreach Services (SOS) in the Central Coast area in order to build relationships with homeless neighbors and guests, low income families and others who need CCRM services. Significant opportunities exist for relational and spiritual ministry with homeless persons experiencing difficult times as well as volunteers and donors. The Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Director and Operations Coordinator to adhere to and promote RMA & CCRM Policies & Procedures. This position reports to the Director of CCRM. It is a regular full-time, non-exempt position located in Santa Maria, CA. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime and benefits according to applicable guidelines. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Outreach: - Using CCRM and community partners, Identify resources available for chronically homeless and low income neighbors. - Work collaboratively with the CCRM Director to strategize and conduct outreach in the community, focusing on those who are the most vulnerable. - Build relationships with outreach guests in order to help them successfully transition them to their next step from refuge, to recovery and restoration. This can be within programs in RMA, or with other organizations in the area. - Attend team meetings to monitor coordination of outreach efforts with program goals. - Participate in community collaborative meetings as necessary - Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with churches, staff and volunteers of SOS locations. - Work with Program Manager to refer potential clients to Life Recovery Program (LRP). - Manage all needed inventory and supplies for the shower program, including clothing, hygiene products, towels, and supplies. - Track given resources and guest progress using MissionTracker. - Work with Director to develop and communicate big picture progress of outreach guests who may achieve long term success via recovery program and/or transitional program employment, education, family reunification, etc, all starting with a sack lunch in outreach. Program: - Supervise Life Recovery Program Residents when they participate in outreaches and other events - Counsel, support, and coaching for LRP clients to achieve Program expectations. - Reports relevant information utilizing email, text, and case notes in Mission Tracker.
Supervisory Responsibilities
There are no staff-supervisory responsibilities for this position. OC does supervise LRP clients, TLP clients, and volunteers.
Qualifications - 1-3 years related experience - Valid California Drivers license and insurable under RMAs plan.
Skills - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Self-motivated - Focused- able to remember weekly tasks without being reminded by supervisor, balance completion of day to day tasks while still completing longer-term projects - Team player recognizing that in a mission one must wear many hats - Has self-care practices in place to survive in emotionally challenging work environment
Software - Proficiency with Office Suite applications - Able to learn program database (will train)
Physical Demands - Must be able to sit for long periods, bend and lean over file drawers - Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Equipment Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers.
Work Environment Although this position functions to a large degree in an office/residential environment, this position will be in facilities and visiting sites with an at-risk population where errant behavior and risk of infectious disease may be present, as well as commercial settings where medium duty equipment may be in use, such as forklifts and bailers. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
