Thrift Store Manager
Organization The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA and its area ministries partner with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Central Coast Thrift Store is a division of Central Coast Rescue Mission and provides ministry revenue and vocational opportunities for our clients. Summary The Central Coast Super Thrift Store Manager is responsible for all aspects of Thrift Operations, including profitability, production and dispatch quotas, retail merchandising, customer service, employee and volunteer relations, safety compliance, and budget management. This is a full-time, non-exempt position located in Santa Maria, CA and reports to the Thrift Store Director. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience, and includes benefits. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Ensure profitability and budget alignment, including managing revenue / expenses, studying trends and data to make sound management decisions. - Oversee Vocational Training, ensuring Recovery Program clients are trained comprehensively and are set up to be functional workers in future career ambitions. - Oversee future thrift store expansion. - Responsible for all aspects of production, including being available for hands-on teaching and assistance with sorting, preparing and pricing. - Ensure Dispatch and Production goals are accomplished on a daily basis, including employee scheduling and adjusting according to inventory peaks and valleys, vehicle maintenance, GPS tracking, phones, Call-Center / Dispatch coordination for route organization and customer service. - Responsible for recycling, selling recycle textiles, shoes, books and e-waste. - Responsible for all aspects of Security for CCST, including staffing, repairs and responding to emergency alarm calls (e.g. nights, weekends, and holidays). - Responsible for cleanliness of all CCST facilities. - Maintain excellent customer service at retail locations and cross departmentally. - Oversee employee relations. Recruit, supervise, manage timecards and train staff; provide guidance and inspiration to staff, and correct performance deficiencies. - Supervise, mentor, and train program clients in specific areas of the Thrift Store operations (vocational training). Prepare evaluation reports on program clients and submit them to the Program Manager regularly. - Recruit volunteer help. Includes community service and volunteers. - Ensure timeliness and accuracy of project and facility maintenance tracking. - Attend and participate in professional group meetings (ACTS) and stay current on trends and best practices for Thrift Store Operations. - Conducts daily devotions / prayer with the staff Other Duties & Responsibilities - Be a "Servant Leader" in actual everyday situations in alignment with RMA' s Lead Like Jesus commitment and Mission/Vision/Values. - Supervise maintenance and construction projects performed by outside vendors / contractors. - Assist Thrift Store Director in special projects and expansion, creating annual budget and identifying critical projects. - Research regulations, procedures, or technical reference materials relating to best practice practices for Thrift Store Operations. - Collect and analyze data to identify needs and evaluate Thrift Store or project effectiveness. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, managers and supervisors, contractors and staff. - Identify and analyze administrative problems and implement operational changes consistent with organizational objectives. - Promote/Train RMA Mission/Vision/Values. - Promote RMA Safety Program and in alignment with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and Smith Systems policies and procedures, model safe work practices. - Ensure safety compliance including training, accident investigation, facility inspections etc., including implement policies and procedures for safety and loss prevention. - Ensures all employees, volunteers and clients in working accident free by attending monthly safety matrix and tailgate meetings, reporting near misses, offering safety suggestions, etc. - Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Supervisory Responsibilities The Thrift Store Supervisor will supervise thrift store staff and volunteers, including retail and production areas. Qualifications - A solid Bible based Christian faith, compatible with RMAs Statement of Faith and an active member of an Evangelical church. - 5 years increasing experience in supervising/managing Discount Retail/Thrift Store Operations. - Minimum of High School diploma/GED. - Valid Drivers License and insurable under RMA

Software - PC knowledge including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc. Physical Demands - Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties including an ability to lift up to 60 lbs. Equipment - Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers. - Basic warehouse equipment such as hand trucks - Cars, vans, and light trucks.
Work Environment Although this position functions to a large degree in an office or retail setting, as a part of normal duties this position will be in facilities where light and medium duty material handling equipment may be in use. As a part of normal duties this position will be in facilities with an at-risk population where errant behavior and disease risk may be present. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
