Assistant Director

The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Antelope Valley Dream Center (AVDC) is a vital part of RMA that offers emergency food resources through a pantry network and other non-profit organizations in the local area.

Summary
The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director with the daily operations of the AVDC. In addition, this position will assist in managing and developing cash and Gift-in-Kind (GIK) relationships as well as building our food bank capabilities in the Antelope Valley area. Initial and on-going training may take place in Pacoima at the Valley Food Bank location. This is a full-time, exempt position and is benefits-eligible according to applicable guidelines. AVDC is located in Lancaster and reports to the Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Work with the Director to provide leadership, direction, and management to all aspects and operations of the Antelope Valley Dream Center (AVDC).
• Collaborate with Director to increase community awareness and support through events, workshops, and tours.
• Represent the Antelope Valley Dream Center at places of worship, schools, businesses and civic organizations etc.
• Assist in managing and developing donor relationships.
• Manage social media and communication to promote AVDC.
• Develop and manage volunteer relationships.
• Visit pantries quarterly to support our relationships and assure they meet AVDC standards.
• Maintain regular communication and accountability of all Food Pantries and partners receiving food from the Antelope Valley Dream Center.
• Assist and contribute with oversight of warehouse staff and volunteers to meet the daily food donation, processing and distribution requirements.
• Assist Director to assure all warehouse practices and cleanliness meet safe food handling requirements.
• Assure regular staff and volunteer safety training and encourage safe behavior daily through observation and recognition of safe and unsafe practices.
• Report incoming Gift-in-Kind (GIK), and food distribution.
• Oversee and develop volunteers including management of Volunteer Tracker, reports, process applications, orientation and training.
• Ensure safety and operations standards including managing the implementation and follow through of 5’s.
• Develop SOP’s for various aspects of warehouse operations including GIK processing, data collection, processing food, distributing food, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Cont’d)
• Manage inventory including rotating food to be distributed in a manner that limits any waste.
• Oversee and participate in general cleanup of offices and warehouse.
• Provide for the appropriate disposal of all expired/unusable food items.

Other Duties & Responsibilities
• Serve as the Food Bank’s Serv-Safe manager.
• Promote and support the RMA Safety Program.
• Maintain a high level of integrity, camaraderie, and professional relationships with volunteers and donors.
• Assist with loading and unloading vehicles when needed.
• Assist with donation pick up when needed.
• Perform other related duties and projects assigned by the Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position assists the Director in supervising warehouse staff and volunteers.

Qualifications:
• A Bible based Christian faith compatible with RMA’s Statement of Faith manifesting the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) and an active member of an Evangelical church.
• A heart of compassionate for the hungry and those in need of assistance.
• Sincere desire to be a "Servant Leader" in everyday situations
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes. Seeking professionals with varied backgrounds, abilities, experiences, thoughts and ideas.
• 3-5 years non-profit experience.
• Flexibility in work hours, occasional weekend and evenings required.
• Must be willing to commute to Pacoima, California for on-site training for a period of time.
• Valid CA driver’s license and insurable under RMA.
• Experience in performance and operations management

Skills
• Management abilities including sound judgment, directing, motivating, coordinating, measuring results, and reporting.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Initiator that work independent and under deadlines.
• Bi-lingual language skills desirable (English/Spanish).
• Teachable spirit and be committed to team participation.
• Strong computer and administrative skills.



Software
• PC knowledge including Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Will use Volunteer Tracker database.

Physical Demands
This position requires extended times of work in an office environment in meetings and working at a desk and computer. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.

Equipment
• Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers.
• Cars, vans, light and medium duty refrigerated trucks, forklift & electric pallet jacks.

Work Environment
This position functions in an office and warehouse environment. As a part of normal duties this position will be in commercial settings where medium duty equipment will be in use, such as a forklifts or electric pallet jacks and locations with an at-risk population where errant behavior and risk of infectious disease may be present. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
