REPORTS TO: Director of Homeless Services

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is a non-denominational, evangelical Christian program affiliated with the City Gate Network. The Center City men’s shelter serves approximately 200-300 homeless individuals daily. At that same location, we are Philadelphia’s largest homeless meals program, serving 3 meals per day for 365 days of the year. See www.sundaybreakfast.org for more information.


JOB DESCRIPTION:
Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and detail-oriented individual with a passion for serving those experiencing homelessness and a desire to serve alongside our team as we seek transformation in the lives of others. This position allows you to use your gifts in a dynamic, fastly-growing environment to maximize the homeless services of the organization, while guiding our homeless shelter guests and resident toward stability. Maximize our ministry by developing long-term, effective relationships with other agenices and partners, with the goal of connecting those whom we serve with a successful outcome of advancing their established goals. Advocate for homeless in our community and city, and boldly serving those needs through the mission and work of Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission.

DUTIES:
• Interview and assess shelter guests’ needs to determine program placement and potential referrals.
• Partner with guests to problem solving in removing their barriers to housing stability.
• Establish goals to overcome barriers to successful housing stability by making necessary notes and logs into our CRM for successful tracking.
• Maintain client databases daily and with each guest interaction.
• Provide appropriate information, referral, diversion and community resources to meet identified needs.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and groups to coordinate referrals and services to guests.
• Follow up on referrals to ensure shelter guests’ needs are met.
• Advocate on behalf of our guests to ensure timely, effective and appropriate delivery of services.
• Build a relationship of trust and break down the barriers that keep people experiencing homelessness from the care that they need and deserve.
• Provide linkage to other needed resources (i.e. mental health, substance use, legal, assistance with housing and benefits application, distribution of health and hygiene supplies, vital records assistance, and income and employment attainment.)
• Develop and maintain partnerships with police departments, probation, parole, correctional facilities, hospitals, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations and other social and public service agencies.
• Employ such engagement tools as motivational interviewing, trauma informed care techniques in order to form positive and trusting relationships.
• Develops and maintains linkages with other local community support agencies, vocational resources and benefit programs.
• Provide services in a person-centered and trauma-informed environment, utilizing best practices and methods.
• Act as guest advocate to ensure resident voice is heard and barriers are overcome to meet critical needs, especially related to housing.
• Keep accurate, up to date records, progress, case notes for guests and residents in our CRM.
• Be a source of support in a non-judgmental manner.
• Crisis counseling as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge and understanding of poverty and vulnerable populations
• Knowledge of complex systems of care providing resources and services to guests
• Experience in Crisis management
• Familiarity with Greater Philadelphia institutions, agencies, and the homeless community
• Advocacy for guests; internal and external
• An innate willingness to dig in and engage with guests in a team orientated environment.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and change and a strong attention to details
• Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, and a roll-up-my-sleeves attitude
• Strong writing, proofreading verbal, interpersonal and group communications skills
• Possess tact, diplomacy and flexibility both in person and on the phone
• Independent decision making
• Exceptional computer skills



REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and/or at least 4 years of proven experience in human service work.
• Two years of experience working with the homeless population preferred.
• Eager to assist guests in a non-judgmental, empathetic and compassionate manner.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Client Management Systems.
• Adherence to our Employee Policy Manual
• Must demonstrate a sincere desire to work with homeless individuals, be friendly, flexible and enthusiastic, and willing to advocate the mission of Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission
• Computer Skills: Strong with proficiency in all programs of the current Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel, and excellent experience with client management systems (including HMIS)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is primarily during the day performed at a desk in the office. Some evening and weekend meetings required as scheduled and as necessary based upon scheduling.
Must be willing to travel to another site as needed and work evenings and weekends as needed (valid driver’s license required).


COMPENSATION & HOURS
This is a FULL-TIME position with a projected salary range of $35-40,000, commiserating with experience. Standard benefit package applies. No relocation assistance is available.
The schedule for this position is flexible - based on the needs of the organization and the responsibilities of the position. A successful candidate must successfully pass criminal background check, drug test, and sex offender screenings.
