The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Lighthouse for Women & Children (LHWC) currently provides 100 beds serving homeless single women and women with children. LHWC will soon be opening a new emergency shelter which will have 20 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. This new location will more than double our emergency occupancy. The Emergency Care Program, and the Life Recovery Program, offers a complete continuum of care specifically tailored to the needs of homeless women and families by offering shelter, intervention, substance abuse recovery, case management, education, life skills development, vocational training, employment search, and transitional housing.



Summary

Reporting to the Chief Ministry Officer, the Lighthouse Director is responsible to oversee the development and implementation of all ministry services provided across the organization within Ventura County. Works in planning, goal setting, program organization, budgeting, decision making, personnel recruiting, motivating, training, and ministry improvements in alignment with RMA’s Mission, Vision, & Values. Encourage direct reports to facilitate and model commitment to fundraising, assist with community and church relations, ensure collaboration with local churches, agencies, school districts and government boards to affect an integrated program capable of meeting the felt needs within the community. Serves as a member of the RMA Director Team, and interacts with ministries and departments across the organization. This is a full-time, exempt position located at the Lighthouse in Oxnard, CA. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience, and includes benefits.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Ministry

Ensure the programs and services of each outreach ministry align with Rescue Mission Alliance’s (RMA) purpose and objectives and are in context with each other.
Work with ministry direct reports to develop and refine the vision and spiritual direction for each ministry in relation to serving women and children, to families in poverty, abused women, and women impaired by addictions.
Work with the Chief Ministry Officer and staff to establish strategic and tactical plans for the implementation of RMA’s outreach into the local community through these ministries.
Establish standards and outcome measures for delivery of services.
Foster and encourage teamwork across ministries and departments.
Serve as a local voice at RMA headquarters for the support of each Lighthouse ministry.
Strive for continuous improvement and excellence for ministry programs and services by evaluating and implementing best practices both internally and externally.
Interact and network with community, church, agency and educational leaders to affect positive joint outcomes.
Provide monthly ministry reports for submission to President/CEO.
Apprise Chief Ministry Officer and Department Directors of important people issues, programs, and projects.
Network with ministries outside of RMA for partnerships and best practices.
Pivot when necessary or faced with an unknown pandemic to ensure that these responsibilities are continually carried out, needs are met, staff is cared for, and the overall environment of the organization stays positive.


Budgeting/Finance

Work with Directors to develop annual ministry plans and budgets, making adjustments as needed and monitoring throughout the year.
Approve and manage expenses against approved budget.
Ensure client accounts are managed in accordance with RMA policies/financial standards.


Community Support

Develop and maintain community support through volunteerism, donor relations, and community partnerships.
Prioritize efforts for major donor cultivation, development, and care
Collaborate with the Development Department in strategy and methods for encouraging donor partnerships at all levels
Provide Donor Development with stories and measures of lives changed through the ministry, and provide feedback for Mission communications and publications.
Develop and execute community, volunteer and major donor events
Build relationships with local government and community agencies, and participate in community groups.


Fundraising

Coordinate with Chief Ministry Officer & Director of Development in developing strategy and methods to ensure successful fundraising efforts.
Review/edit monthly newsletter articles.
Help plan and prioritize major donor cultivation.


Supervisory Responsibilities

The Director will work with the CMO and HR to develop the appropriate organizational chart which will include the direct reporting relationships and frequency of performance evaluations.
Conduct and participate in performance evaluation and coaching for ministry staff providing feedback on strengths and development needs.
Maintain a high‑level of integrity, camaraderie, and professional relationships with staff.
Responsible for the development and training of ministry staff.
Involved in recruiting and selecting key staff for each ministry.
Oversee the development, documentation, and administration of ministry policies.
Promote RMA Safety Program and ensure compliance, model safe work practices, provide safety training, and recognition for safe behaviors/practices.
Participate in other activities, programs, and teams to support the greater purposes of RMA.




Qualifications

Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be active in a local evangelical church and be committed to serving God and the body of Christ.
Must have compatible theology with RMA core values and Statement of Faith.
BA, BS or Seminary Degree, Bible College, or equivalent experience.
5 years of management and supervisory experience.
Experience in leading the ministry of a rescue mission or similar ministry.
Valid Driver’s License and RMA insurable.
Bilingual (Spanish & English) a plus.
Must have a teachable spirit and be committed to team participation.
Must have a genuine burden to have people come to Christ and to have their needs alleviated.
Must be an initiator who can work under deadlines.
Proven leadership abilities: motivation, communication, judgment, coordination, measuring results, and reporting.
Must have a sincere desire to be a "Servant Leader" in actual everyday situations.
Excellent people skills; with proven ability to motivate staff, pastors, and community leaders.
Ability to raise funds for ministry - preferably with proven experience.


Software

Computer Knowledge. Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)



Physical Demands

This position requires extended times of work in an office environment in meetings and working at a desk and computer. Travelling by car will be a regular occurrence.



Equipment

Basic office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and printers.



Work Environment

As a part of normal duties this position will be office at a facility with an at-risk population where errant behavior and risk of infectious disease may be present. Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
