The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. The Ventura County Rescue Mission (VCRM), located in Oxnard, CA, is our largest provider of these services. VCRM is a 125-bed facility dedicated to assisting men who are poor, homeless, and or have substance abuse problems, as well as providing outreach services and meals to those struggling in our community. VCRM also provides 36 beds of transitional housing for graduates of the residential recovery program. VCRM partners with local churches and other organizations/businesses to meet the physical, vocational, educational, and spiritual needs of the people we serve.
The Chaplainâ€™s position is an essential part of the success of the Mission. The Chaplain assists with the daily operations and activities of Mission programs, including providing discipleship counseling; Biblical, recovery and life-skill classes and case management assistance for clients. The Chaplain will also adhere to and promote all Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) policies and procedures. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, reporting to the Program Manager of VCRM. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience, and includes benefits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
â€¢ Promotes the physical, spiritual, emotional, personal, educational, and vocational welfare of the program clients in Gospel context.
â€¢ Provides clients with Christian discipleship and addiction recovery training including, explanation of the Gospel, Biblical instruction, relapse prevention and individual and group Christian discipleship counseling.
â€¢ Maintains a client caseload and provides appropriate case management for assigned clients. This includes regular one-on-one counseling, and oversight of client program progress.
â€¢ Work with Case Manager to create individualized care plans for clients.
â€¢ Keeps accurate client records and reports by utilizing the MissionTracker client tracking software system.
â€¢ Maintains good communication with the Program Manager and other Mission staff keeping them informed of client progress, potential problems, including drug use and any other discipline issues.
â€¢ Maintain communication with assigned donors.
â€¢ Must be willing to continue ongoing job related training and CEUâ€™s in recovery, counseling, discipleship, etc. as directed by the Director or Program Manager.
â€¢ Servant leader who demonstrates Christian character (Fruit of the Spirit), integrity and cooperation in all interactions with clients and employees.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
â€¢ Promote RMA Safety Program and in alignment with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and Smith Systems policies and procedures, model safe work practices
â€¢ Occasional donation, accounting and gratuity processing.
â€¢ Occasional driving duties, vehicles inspections, and coordinating maintenance.

â€¢ Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ & be active in a local evangelical church.
â€¢ Must have compatible theology with RMA core values and Statement of Faith.
â€¢ Masterâ€™s degree in Theology, Christian Counseling, Ministry or similar. (May consider strong candidate with a relevant Bachelorâ€™s degree and Addictive Studies Certification who also has 5+ years of applicable Rescue Mission, recovery or counseling experience.)
â€¢ Minimum of 5 yearâ€™s of experience in recovery ministry, counseling, Rescue Mission or related fields.
â€¢ Certification in Addiction Studies and/or Anger Management is strongly preferred.
â€¢ Teachable spirit and able to submit to leadership.
â€¢ Self-motivated leader who exhibits responsibility, maturity, integrity and dependability.
â€¢ Valid California driverâ€™s license and insurable under RMA.
â€¢ Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to teach classes.
â€¢ Strong administrative skills, including record keeping, time management, and use of computers and software.
â€¢ The knowledge and ability to guide and direct clients through discipleship counseling.
â€¢ Passionate to help people in need and skilled in relational ministry
â€¢ A learner who will read relevant works and attend occasional seminars or classes in the areas of recovery, discipleship, leadership and counseling.
â€¢ Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), MissionTracker.
â€¢ This position requires an extended amount of time working in an office environment.
â€¢ Must be able to sit for long periods.
â€¢ Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. without assistance.
