VP of Development

The Vice President for Development is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating all aspects of fundraising for St. Matthew's House and leads the Development and Marketing & Communications teams. The position reports to the CEO of St. Matthew's House and is a critical member of the executive leadership team. The position is responsible for providing the leadership and support for achieving the St. Matthew's House fundraising goals, including efforts to build individual giving; corporate and foundation giving; and legacy gifts. The position is also responsible for engaging multiple constituencies in ongoing fundraising activities as well as developing new initiatives and strategies for resource development. This role will develop a fundraising plan that is based on the organization's strategic plan, work in conjunction with the CEO, the Development and Marketing & Communications staff and the Board to implement the plan.

The position will establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with varied internal and external constituencies to ensure meeting revenue goals. The individual will work to further define and advance the case for support; set new levels of expectations for fundraising and stewardship; evaluate and augment existing annual and major giving efforts; and articulate clear and achievable goals for Development, Marketing & Communications and donor relations, as well as lead and inspire the staff to meet and exceed departmental Development and Marketing & Communications expectations. The position is expected to not only manage the development and marketing plan but be actively engaged with the CEO and with the Board in the solicitation of funds and the stewardship of donors.

To be successful in this role a person must demonstrate the ability to exercise organizational leadership, lead the development and implementation of strategies for capital campaigns, planned giving and major gift initiatives and lead the multimedia campaign creation. This role must maintain an intentional focus on building and strengthening relationships in the community and in the counties supported by St. Matthew's House. St. Matthew's House is a faith based 501(c)(3) charitable organization that exists to transform lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined.

Requirements

Administrative
· Leads and manages the organization's efforts to meet all annual, programmatic, and capital fundraising goals.

· Develops a comprehensive strategic development and marketing plan and effective fund development programs.

· Provides staff leadership to relevant Board Committees and attends all relevant Board Committee meetings; works with the Board Chair to ensure the Board is properly and effectively engaged in the work of the development and marketing department.

· Coordinates all fundraising activities with the accounting department to ensure accuracy of development records and deposits; adheres to protocols established by audit standards.

· Provides leadership and input on annual budget planning.

· Oversees implementation of all communication and fundraising databases for communication, mailings and development. Oversees the organization's CRM, Raiser's Edge, for the tracking, cultivating and stewarding prospects and donors.


Development & Marketing

· Provides strategic vision, planning and management of all fundraising efforts including but not limited to: capital needs; planned giving; in-kind gifts; corporate and individual sponsorships; grant proposals and awards; and, donor research.

· Manages staff involved in securing grants to include the development of grant proposals, oversight, evaluation and final reporting of secured grants.

· Ensures grant requirements and restrictions are aligned with St. Matthew's House Statement of Faith and core values.

· Conceptualizes, implements, and evaluates effective solicitation strategies and participates in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts from individual donors, corporations and foundations.

· Manages the organization's high-level donors, and coordinates related special event programming.

· Generates support for capital projects for the organization and operating support for all St. Matthew's House Program services.

· Partners appropriately with the Board and its Committees.

· Ensures the creation of synergies between Marketing and Development at all levels of the organization and within the community.

· Leads the Development and Marketing & Communications teams to execute on various initiatives such as capital campaigns, planned giving, direct fundraising, major gifts and the creation of multimedia campaign material.

· Leads development of strategies to maintain and cultivate multiple seven figure donations and to steward high profile relationships in partnership with the CEO.

· Actively participates as a member of the Leadership Team and collaborates with Leadership Team members to achieve organizational goals.

· Secures an in-depth knowledge and understanding of St. Matthew's House Mission and Ministry and is able to effectively communicate this to a diverse audience including media outlets to secure new donors, enhance current donations and to increase the community's awareness of the services provided by St. Matthew's House.

· Builds solid and meaningful relationships with donors and cultivates long term relationships between donors and St. Matthew's House.

· Participates on a regular basis in community events and expands network to raise awareness of the St. Matthew's House mission.

· Develops and distributes periodic reporting on Development and Marketing departmental activities and outcomes and produces the organization's annual report.

· Effectively manages departmental staff to include hiring, training, developing and retaining a high caliber of talent within the Development and Marketing & Communications teams.

· Supports and promotes collaborative, constructive relationships with all staff in the organization and with external partners, donors, residents and volunteers.

· Leads the development of and oversees the implementation of the technology strategy for Development and Marketing & Communications in collaboration with other departments to ensure all organizational needs are addressed in the strategy.

· Leads event planning for the organization and ensures all events support the organization's mission, Statement of Faith and core values.

· Manages third party vendor relationships effectively to secure necessary resources for the organization.

· Consistently demonstrates the core values of St. Matthew's House and biblical Christian values.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

The successful candidate will possess, preferably, a Masters degree from an accredited university with 10 or more years of professional fundraising experience within a similarly complex not-for-profit organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with an established record of donor development, marketing and operations experience. Candidates should have a successful track record of securing sponsorships, growth, major individual, corporate, and foundation gifts, and experience managing multiple campaigns, including capital, and special project campaigns, and initiatives. Preferred candidate will have a proven track record of annual fundraising in excess of ten million dollars.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate must possess a drive to set and meet fundraising goals and have a strong commitment to quality work and high productivity with close attention to detail while supporting the organization's Statement of Faith and practicing biblical Christian values.

The ability to manage people effectively and able to multitask is essential. Must possess excellent donor relations and marketing skills. Must possess keen analytical skills and have experience with prospect research and reporting methods. Can work with multiple constituencies and provide leadership to the Board to ensure success.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Raisers Edge or other CRM is highly desirable. Ability to handle confidential records and sensitive donor information with discretion. Excellent research, writing, editing and verbal communication skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Proven organizational skills with ability to manage and complete multiple short-term and long-term tasks and responsibilities. Flexible to work weekday evenings and weekends for meetings and special events.

Physical Demands: Relatively little physical effort is required, however, must be able to move about the facility and possess the manual dexterity required to operate a computer and other business equipment.

Working Areas: Office environment with occasional outdoor events.

Requirements: Must be able to meet the approved driver requirements. Must be willing to occasionally work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours due to donor events or meetings. Travel may be required to meet with donors.
