Job purpose

Development Officer is responsible for extending the reach of the Mission through planning, coordinating, and implementing its major donor program. Position is responsible for identification, cultivation solicitation and stewardship activities along with coordinating activities with other staff, board members and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years of nonprofit fund development experience
• Experience with face-to-face donor solicitation and fundraising techniques or sales/ marketing experience with an emphasis on relationship building is highly desired.
• Ability to problem solve, think strategically and creatively
• Attention to detail and strong project management skills
• Professional attitude and appearance
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision
• Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent listening skills, problem solving, and ability to be persuasive
• Ability to work as a member of a team, inspiring trust and mutual care
• Job specific qualifications: Valid WDL, good driving record, proof of insurance

Duties and responsibilities

Culture Work
• Establish professional, caring, strengths-based relationships built on truth, respect, encouragement and trust.
• Maintain a high level of integrity in modeling and promoting the Mission’s core values and culture standards.
Team Work
• Advise the Sr. Director of Community Engagement in matters related to major donor development
• Help solve organizational challenges
• proactively assist as necessary in the overall success of the Mission
Direct Work
• Proactively reach out to qualify leads through cold calls and other communications making 12-15 substantial contacts per month
• Actively manage portfolio of individual major gift prospects through regular cultivation meetings, in-person solicitations, and stewardship activities
• Cultivate and expand current giving by planned gift donors and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor request in collaboration with the Sr. Director of Development.
• Track and report relationship management activity using donor management software
• Participate in regular Community Engagement and organization wide meetings.

Working conditions

Office setting with computer work; travel to various locations; flexible schedule; frequent telephone calls.
